Matthew practises in criminal, family law, domestic violence, commercial, regulatory, industrial and employment matters.
Prior to commencing at the Bar, Matthew worked at the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions in Brisbane, Ipswich and Southport. During that time he advised on and prepared a broad range of criminal matters, including indictable trials, sentences, bail applications, appeals, disclosure issues and evidentiary disputes.
Matthew was previously Associate to two Judges of the District Court of Queensland, where he gained experience in criminal and civil trials, sentencing proceedings, applications and appellate work.
Since commencing practice at the Bar, Matthew has appeared in a broad range of matters in State and Federal jurisdictions, including as counsel for the successful applicant in the contested parenting final hearing in McMillan & West (No 3) [2026] FedCFamC2F 29.
Matthew holds a Master of Laws (Intellectual Property). He has also worked in commercial and operational roles outside legal practice, including in agribusiness and the regulated gaming industry, where he gained experience in commercial contracting, competition law and compliance, intellectual property and brand protection.
